I’ve posted the Roomba i7 review to present the in-depth description of a Wi-Fi capable robotic vacuum with 3 cleaning stages. Its suction power of 1,800 Pa and 60 minutes of battery life provi...
Read moreThe Roomba 980 vs i7 comparison is dedicated to two robotic vacs that belong to the iRobot's super-popular Roomba line. Despite the fact that they belong to different series, they have very similar looks and user interfaces. They also use the same advanced technologies: iAdapt navigation, Alexa support, 3-stage cleaning system, etc. However, the main distinction between the models is probably the fact that the i7 has the Smart Mapping system while the 980 doesn't.
The compared models create almost equally powerful airflow: the i7 provides 1800 Pa and the 980 makes 1670 Pa. In practice, you won't notice the difference if you compare them both; in my tests, such suction appeared to be sufficient to suck in large crumbs, dust, and sugar from the floor. Checking Roomba i7 vs 980 dustbin capacity, you will notice that the i7 has a larger one: 600ml vs 500 ml.
Both models can be used for cleaning large rooms. The difference between their maximum coverage area is only 100 ft². Thus, the i7 covers the area up to 2000 ft², whereas its competitor goes up to 1900 ft².
Comparing iRobot Roomba i7 vs 980 noise levels, I came to the conclusion that the 980 goes pretty loud during cleaning, emitting an irritating whirring sound. The i7 is much quieter since it's a newer model where the problem with noise has been fixed. The difference is as follows: 62 dB versus 78 dB.
The 980 has a Power Boost mode that automatically increases suction power when the vac gets on a carpet. This feature works especially well for thick carpets. However, unlike its competitor, the i7 is equipped with special extractors with nibs that help the vac go deep into the carpet, sucking in hair and dirt from it. So, as a result of the Roomba i7 vs Roomba 980 carpet cleaning comparison, I will give a win to the i7.
