Dimensions

The iRobot Roomba 960 is 13.8 inches across and that can cut off access to small items of furniture (stools, for example). However, it’s a low profile device with a height of 3.6 inches to handle cleaning under the beds, wardrobes, etc. The unit weighs 8 pounds that make it easy to carry the robot around the house and move between floors.

This robot features a very large dust container (750 ml) that allows emptying it after two cycles through the house of more than 2000 sq. ft.

Features

It should be mentioned in this Roomba 960 review, that this receiver has a 3-Stage Cleaning System that includes the ability to deliver five times more powerful suction. This feature allows the robot to cope with tons of dirt, debris, and the longest pet hair. Besides, the device is fitted with special filters to eliminate allergens and capture the slightest particles of dust. The vac cleans well on top of thick carpeting. Note that it lacks power for deep cleaning and besides, it cannot vacuum up crumbs or dust on the couch since it needs to be on a flat surface.

This model has the iAdapt 2.0 technology that allows the vac to map several rooms on the same level simultaneously. The robot is able to create a map that helps it see what it’s necessary to clean and remember the places that have been already cleaned. The robot goes through all the rooms. If it doesn't finish cleaning, it recharges and then picks up where it has left off. Consider leaving the doors open to areas it’s programmed to get into. Note that the device can be stuck in a bathroom, hallway closet, and in any other small space.

There is no need to track whether it’s time to empty the bin since the robot informs the user via the app when its container is full.

High-quality optical sensors on the top of the device identify more than 230,400 data points for just a single second making the map as detailed as it’s possible. It is also very good at sensing the stairs and not falling over the edge.

It’s possible to schedule the iRobot 960 to clean specific rooms on different days and hours using the phone app that also monitors progress and the necessity for renewable parts. This model has no its own remote. It’s possible to run it only by pressing the relevant button or by the app.

Like any other robot vacuum, this unit is designed for dry cleaning only. However, it’s compatible with the Braava JET M6 for mopping.

Design

The round-shaped device comes with two large rubber wheels to cope with the door thresholds easily and to save delicate surfaces from damage. One more wheel is on the front to let the robot move forward.

The dustbin is on the back part. The front part of the Roomba is covered with sensors to indicate obstacles. The 960 has a camera on top for navigation that won’t work if it’s covered. In addition, it requires at least a small amount of light in order to detect surroundings.

The Roomba 960 is designed with two roller brushes for easy transition from hard floors to carpets and vice versa. The sweeping side brush helps grab the dirt in the corners, but the robot might miss some of the hardest-to-reach edges as any of the circular-shaped vacuums.

The iRobot has 3 buttons on its top – a large “Clean” to activate the robot, the “Home” one to command it to go to the charging station, and the “Spot” button to remove spots.

The package includes a dual-mode virtual wall, an extra side brush, a filter, a home-based charging station, and the Roomba 960 manual to help activate, set up, manage, and maintain the vac.

Conclusion

The iRobot Roomba 960 robot vacuum is suitable for everyday cleaning when nobody is at home since it can be scheduled and its bin doesn’t require frequent emptying or interrupting the cleaning cycle. The model is suitable for floor layouts with tons of stuff due to its systematic rather than random cleaning. The 960 navigates flawlessly, vacuums efficiently, and does everything it claims to do.
