Janome HD3000

The Janome HD3000 review is about a heavy-duty product and professional quality machine. Being an automatic model, this unit can handle a wide range of thick and thin woven and non-woven fabrics. It’s also remarkable for its sturdy partly-metal construction.

Dimensions

The Janome HD3000 has an average size of 16 x 11.3 x 7.2 inches that makes it possible to place it anywhere in the room, for example, on the dining table. However, it weighs 18.7 pounds; so, it’s better to escape carrying it around and find a fixed place for it.

Features

Since the Janome HD3000 sewing machine isn’t computerized, it fits both experienced sewists and beginners.

The Janome HD3000 has a powerful motor that is rated at 1 amp and at 120 volts. It easily sews across the waxed canvas, leather, and several layers of middleweight denim, and other heavy materials. To handle the process, it’s important to take a strong thread and #18 needle.

Furthermore, it can sew through fake fur without any problem if considering brushing the fur away from the cut edge to avoid bulky spots along the seam. The unit also does well on lightweight fabrics. It has a few reverse-motion types of stitches that are suitable for sewing stretch materials. Note that this model works quietly despite the type of material.

There are center, left, and right needle positions depending on the chosen stitch. This machine lacks a needle down position and that’s why it’s necessary to manually turn the hand wheel. It also doesn’t feature speed control making it necessary to regulate your speed through the foot pedal.

The Janome HD3000 heavy-duty sewing machine has 18 kinds of stitches onboard including some decorative ones. It’s not a large number, as many models come with several times more of them. However, no more than 20 basic stitches are usually more than enough to cope with any sewing project.

The unit comes with the opportunity to make long and wide stitches. A maximum straight stitches’ length is 4 mm. The zigzag stitches’ length is the same and their width is up to 6.5mm. It’s possible to adjust both length and width starting from zero.

The machine makes 860 stitches per minute that is not fast but still, lets the user avoid expensive threads (high-speed models require a top-quality thread in order not to rip it while sewing). Besides, it reaches the top of the speed regardless of the material while many other machines work at a high rate of speed only when sewing ordinary fabrics.

It has a 1-step buttonhole that’s really great since it’s able to sew a complete buttonhole in a moment. Note that many other models come with the multi-step buttonhole, meaning it takes 4 steps to make the buttonhole and, in addition, it stops after each step.

This model has a snap on feet, being a low shank machine. Note that in the case of replacement, it’s not recommended to use other brand snap on feet as it may not line up properly with the machine. This problem may cause damage to the Janome HD3000.

This unit comes with the set that includes the following accessories:

  • a zipper foot;
  • an adjustable blind hemmer foot;
  • a hemmer foot;
  • a buttonhole foot;
  • an overcast foot;
  • extra bobbins;
  • a small screwdriver;
  • an extra spool holder;
  • extra packs of needles;
  • Janome HD3000 manual.

Design

The assembly comes in a hard case with a metal frame and some parts (feet, screws, springs, shaft gear, bobbin winder and case stoppers, etc.) except for a nylon gears (only industrial models have fully metal gears). The unit has a free arm to reach difficult areas (cuffs, sleeves, etc.). It’s designed with an automatic needle threader and a bobbin winder. The latter is located at the top of the machine that makes it necessary to remove the bobbin and load up top.

There are images of each of the 18 types of stitches on the front panel of the case to let the user understand how a specific stitch looks like. There is also a reverse stitch button on the right side of the front panel, as well as a handwheel with a clutch knob, power switch, socket, and a pattern selector dial on the right side of the machine.

The unit has a work lamp, but the light is small and a bit dim.

Conclusion

This model has enough features to be used for both common household stuff and professional sewing from home. Nevertheless, the latter is possible in small quantities because of the low speed of sewing. However, the machine’s durable construction, stability, and great performance ensure high-quality work.
