The iRobot Roomba 805 is a budget-friendly robotic vacuum with the AeroForce 3-step cleaning system and a 60-minute battery life per cleaning session. It lacks smart features except for the voice prompts to notify of its status. So, what distinguishes this model from other similar vacuums?
This item has 18.3 x 16.5 x 5.5 inches in size, weighing 8.4 pounds. So, its dimensions can hardly allow it to go under the coaches, bookcases, and other low furniture. It also cannot reach the corners of the room. The dust box capacity is 600ml. It is not enough to clean the entire house without interruption. However, a dedicated indicator (it alerts the user that it’s time to empty the container) and a quick release button to pull out the bin make things easier and quicker.
The Roomba 805 works well with hard and soft coverings. It can jump over the different levels easily. The unit automatically adjusts suction power and height based on the type of cleaning surface. It makes bare floors, rugs, and carpets free of hair. However, I’ve noticed it cannot remove sand from the high-pile carpets. The robot is fitted with a HEPA filter to catch all the possible allergens and the finest dust during the operation. It’s crucial to change this filter every two months to ensure its efficient work.
This Roomba 805 goes to the base when nearly 15% of power is left. It requires about 2 hours to feed the battery and start cleaning again. Note that if the battery level becomes empty before the unit finishes its session, it won’t come back to where it has left. This device doesn’t save data in its memory and starts cleaning from the very beginning.
The iAdapt Navigation technology and a sensor-based mapping called Dirt Detect system mean that the unit sees the dirt and moves there to clean it. Still, it's random rather than smart navigation, as the iRobot 805 cannot create a map in its memory. However, it is compatible with the dual Virtual Wall barriers to avoid particular areas. The unit also has the cliff sensors not to fall down from the stairs and a bumper with the sensors to detect the obstacles.
This Roomba has neither remote control nor a mobile app to manage it. It’s necessary to push the buttons manually to activate the various options.
The black, round-shaped device has a convenient handle on the top. There are the Clean button and four controls as well. They are for activating the Spot mode, sending the unit back to the base, scheduling, and setting up the clock (minutes and hours). The battery, Dirt Detect, troubleshooting, full dustbin, and anti-tangle indicators are also on the top.
This iRobot Roomba 805 robotic vacuum has one side brush with a bristle that rotates to pick up the debris. A pair of rubber bristle-free extractors are easy to maintain since the hair doesn’t embed in them. The vacuum comes with an extra HEPA filter and a pair of Virtual Walls.
As one can see from my Roomba 805 review, this model does basic work and features an affordable price. At the same time, I’d recommend having a regular vacuum cleaner since the robot misses corners and even some areas along the walls because of its shape and dimensions. This is a win-win model for people with several cats or dogs at home. It will leave no pet hair on the hard floors and carpets.
