This Brother CX155LA review will reveal an electronic sewing machine for sewing and quilting. The machine comes with a great set of accessories and its memory contains 155 stitches.
The Brother CX155LA measures 17.32 x 8.03 x 12.48 inches, so it won’t require a lot of space on your desk. It also weighs just 11 pounds which means that it’s not hard to move from one location to another.
Built-in stitches include one monogramming font that allows you to embroider letters on the fabric. There are also 8 buttonhole designs and a special blind hem stitch. The stitch lengths can be adjusted up to 5mm, and the width up to 7mm.
Sadly, it’s better not to use it with thick batting or several layers of denim. It works better for lightweight and medium fabrics, like silk or spandex.
The pick sewing speed of the Brother CX155LA is 850 stitches per minute, but it can be regulated via a special 3-point slider.
The fabric feeding is really smooth thanks to the 7-point feed dogs which ensure high quality of stitches. The threading is easy as it requires only one push of a lever. The top-load, drop-in bobbin is easy to set. However, there is no automatic thread cutter. The needle can be set up in 8 different positions. The machine is also twin needle capable which is very helpful when working with decorative stitches.
The Brother CX155LA sewing machine has a foot-locking pin feature which allows you to smoothly go over thick seams. The machine comes with 11 presser feet (blind stitch foot, zigzag foot, etc.), a pack of needles, Brother CX155LA manual, and other useful accessories.
The machine has a colorful design with a white and pink color scheme and floral ornament. It is made of thick plastic, which, however, is not as durable as metal. Generally, it has a modern and appealing look thanks to rounded edges and matte finish (however, such a finish is very easy to scratch).
The LCD display shows stitches and settings, it is located in the middle of the front panel. It's backlit and has great contrast, so you can clearly see it in poorly lit conditions.
All the buttons are clearly labeled. Those buttons that work for stitch selection and lengths/width adjustment are located near the display. Needle position, reverse/reinforcement, and start/stop buttons are located below the speed control switch. There are also the utility stitch and character stitch buttons with corresponding LED indicators.
The work light is included, but, to my opinion, it’s not bright enough.
Summing up all that has been said above, I can assert that the Brother sewing Laura Ashley CX155LA will work great for those who want to improve sewing skills. The included 11 presser feet appear to be a pleasant bonus for this purpose.
This machine has simple control with an LCD display. Of course, it’s not powerful enough for the thickest types of fabrics, but it’s definitely suitable for various home decor projects thanks to a large number of built-in stitches.
