Roomba e6 — App and Voice Control, Plus Virtual Walls in the Box
The iRobot Roomba e6 Wi-Fi connected robot vacuum features an affordable price, having several smart options onboard. It is designed with a 90-minute cleaning cycle to remove all types of dirt from both hard and soft surfaces.
Dimensions
This model’s sizes are 13.45 x 13.39 x 3.65 inches, reaching the areas under most furniture (except for the low-profile wardrobes and beds). The weight is just 7.23 pounds. The dustbin capacity of 0.5L might not be enough for a large apartment but much depends on the amount of dirt and pet hair on the floors.
Features
The Roomba e6 demonstrates great cleaning performance on tile, laminated, hardwood floors, and soft carpets of average thickness. A built-in edge detection helps the robot recognize stairs and not fall down from them. The Spot mode allows the unit to eliminate specific spills once it is placed in the center of the debris. The filter inside the device captures allergens, making cleaning completely comfortable and safe.
It moves randomly since it lacks a camera to see the area and cannot create a map in its memory. Besides, it doesn’t resume cleaning after recharging. In other words, I had to take it to the place where it had stopped before going to the docking station.
To start, pause, receive alerts, and remotely schedule cleaning from a mobile device, the Roomba e6 app remote control is available. Scheduling means to set the robot for everyday cleaning in due time or choose the necessary days of the week. Unfortunately, it lacks the setup of zoned cleaning cycles for specific rooms.
It’s also possible to use virtual walls when it’s necessary to clean a specific zone rather than the entire room or apartment. They can work in Linear and Halo modes to prevent the vacuum from crossing the room line and entering a specific circular area, respectively. As this model moves aimlessly and makes too many passes before removing dirt, virtual walls also increase its efficiency, making the unit clean smaller areas.
Design
The e6 Roomba is a circular device with a handle with Clean, Home, and Spot buttons on the front panel. The indicators on the top show the errors, Wi-Fi connection, vacuum level or charge, and how full the bin is. The unit has a bumper on one of its sides and a trash bin with a bin release button on the other.
The caster wheel on the bottom helps the robot navigate the space. Two green rubber brush rolls between the two directional wheels spin towards each other, sucking all the debris into the vacuum without tangling. A spinning brush at the side is designed to remove the dirt along the walls and from the corners.
In this Roomba e6 review, I cannot fail to mention two virtual walls in the package. There is no need to spend money on buying extras to set barriers and prevent the vacuum from going to specific areas. Besides, there is a spare filter in the box, in addition to a pre-installed one. The only thing missing is an extra side brush in the accessory kit.
Conclusion
The iRobot Roomba e6 does its job for people with allergies and those having pets and small kids. Its capabilities might not be enough to keep a large house clean, but the vacuum presents itself flawlessly in smaller areas. The buttons, indicators, and mobile app makes it easy to manage the device and understand its settings.
