The Brother LS2125i is promoted as an ''everyday sewing machine.'' Indeed, it's a user-friendly, easy-to-learn model that won't cost you a fortune but will still provide all the most necessary functions.
The unit's size is just 15 x 6 x 11.8 inches. According to my measurements, the machine has a truly small, 15 x 6.5 inches footprint. The weight is only 12.8 pounds. Despite its low weight, however, it does not move when stitching.
Brother manufactures a wide range of traditional sewing machines for beginners, each having a basic set of functions and mechanical controls. The LS2125i is very similar to the LX3817A, for example. They have nearly identical features and controls but, unlike its counterpart, the LS2125i is quite on par with the more expensive heavy-duty models. Despite its overall simplicity and small size, it can work with the fabric of different thicknesses without trouble.
Now that I've had a chance to put the machine through its paces for my Brother LS2125i review, I can tell you about the results. So, the free arm makes it easier to sew small items. The foot may be elevated to accommodate thicker materials. The foot pedal is accurate and offers a comfortable degree of sensitivity. Winding bobbin is easy: you just need to push it to the right. However, the tension may change for no reason. This way, you have to be careful not to break a needle or thread. At low stitching speeds, the engine may make occasional buzzing noises.
Trying the machine with flannel, denim, and canvas was a successful experience (however, I recommend using needles of higher quality instead of those that come with the machine).
The Brother LS2125i offers 10 stitch designs that will cover basic sewing needs. It can reach a sewing speed of 900 stitches per minute. There is also a 4-step buttonhole feature that allows creating buttonholes of different sizes.
The machine is ready to sew right out of the box (even the needle is already set up) and doesn't need any specific maintenance. It simply needs to be oiled once in a while (just like any other machine, however).
The model comes with 3 bobbins, a set of needles, a spare spool pin, a screwdriver (to disassemble the machine when necessary), a darning plate, a Brother LS2125i sewing machine manual, and 3 presser feet (zipper, button, and buttonhole). They are easy to replace, as they simply snap into place.
The LS2125i does have some performance faults but is definitely decent for the price. So, I rate it at an 8/10.
Just like most other Brother sewing machines, the LS2125i is mainly white and has a plastic case and controls. There is an area with some blue trimming on the front panel. The diagram that shows how to thread the machine is printed on the top.
There are only 3 controls on the machine's face panel: a reverse stitch lever, a tension control dial, and a stitch selection dial. For easy reach, the storage compartment is built into the lower part of the machine's front panel.
This model is amazing in its simplicity. As a result, it receives a flawless score of 10/10 for usability.
The Brother LS2125i sewing machine is an excellent choice for starters: no assembly, no tuning, no extra features—just convenient features for elementary sewing requirements. Besides, it's offered for a good value. Nevertheless, sewing experts will probably find it quite boring as it can't offer a wide range of sewing capabilities. Plus, it's not suitable for doing decorative stuff.
