iRobot Roomba 770 – Advanced Cleaning Technology for Dry Hard Flooring

iRobot Roomba 770

The iRobot Roomba 770 robotic vacuum cleaner is a programmable device for dry use only with a remote in the package. It is remarkable for HEPA filtration and advanced dirt detection. The latter makes a vac clean the area until the tiniest spot is removed.

Dimensions

The Roomba 770 is a medium-sized device – 13.9 x 13.9 across. Its height is 3.4 inches that don’t fit under low-profile furniture. It weighs 13.2 pounds. The dust compartment is only 260ml that requires emptying it twice during a cleaning cycle.

Features

In my Roomba 770 review, I’d like to focus on its iAdapt Responsive Cleaning tech. So it scans the cleaning environment over 60 times per second and responds with more than 40 various movements. This allows removing 100% of debris, dust, pet hair, and other types of dirt (both small and large particles) from even hard surfaces. However, it lacks suction power to properly vacuum medium and high-pile carpets. The vacuum can cross transition strips on wooden floors and thresholds from hardwood to low-pile rugs. In general, it does a good job with hardwood and tile floors removing both dirt and pet hair.

This gadget comes with a 3-stage cleaning process. The vac uses its side brush to deliver dirt to dual multi-surface brushes and then it sucks the dirt. Its little brush reaches the corners well.

Once the Roomba finishes its work, it comes back to a charging base without a problem of finding it. The charge lasts an hour and a half that allows Roomba to clean the whole one-level house on one charge if the doors are open. It is also possible to set the unit to spot clean mode to make it clean a certain area when needed. The 770’s little brush reaches the corners well.

The unit has the anti-tangle mechanism to avoid being caught on power cords. So, the vac goes over the cords and rug fringes without a problem in the majority of cases, but sometimes it drags on them.

It's not very noisy that’s why there’s no need to turn up the volume of the TV or interrupt phone calls. This Roomba is quiet enough compared to a normal vacuum and features a near-silent running around the corners or under furniture.

The iRobot 770 features both optical and acoustic sensors for debris that’s why it can work in the dark. The IR sensors on the bottom prevent the vac from falling down the stairs, but it’s crucial to keep them clean. It’s also necessary to rearrange space in the house a bit to let the Roomba do its job and escape its banging into furniture legs.

It’s possible to schedule the vac by day and hour. To set the schedule and, in addition, time on the clock correctly, use the Roomba 770 manual. The unit has no smart mapping that’s why it runs randomly. However, I should note that its routing is quite efficient.

The iRobot Roomba 770 comes with a docking station, a power adapter, two cleaning tools for maintenance, a remote, and a couple of extra HEPA filters in the package. It also has two virtual walls in the package to block off the necessary areas from cleaning. The batteries for walls and remote are not included.

Design

The robot has a traditional round shape and a gloss-and-matte surface. It comes with a soft-touch bumper to escape damage when it bumps into the obstacles. This model is also fitted with a convenient handle on the top to carry it around. There are two large wheels and a side brush on the bottom of the device.

The “Clean” button is in the middle on the top of the vac. It is designed to manually launch the robot (the vac beeps and the button lights up once the user turns it on), to switch it off and pause, as well as to reset the 770 by holding down the button for several seconds. The device has four manual controls on the top to use them instead of a remote for scheduling, setting the time, etc.

Conclusion

Regardless of not having such up-to-date features as Wi-Fi and Alexa, the Roomba 770 does the basic job flawlessly. Its HEPA filtration makes the gadget a perfect match for people with allergies. The vac doesn’t have much power to cope with high-pile carpets. However, it is still a good option for dry cleaning on the hardwood.
