The Ecovacs Deebot N78 robot vacuum cleaner is a great option for pet owners as it easily helps get rid of both pet and human hair with the help of direct suction power. It’s also equipped with a high-efficiency filtration system that removes allergens.
The cleaner measures 13.9 x 13.9 x 3.3 inches. So, being only 3.3 inches thick, it easily gets under most furniture. It also doesn’t weigh more than 9.7 pounds, providing portability. Inside, it contains a medium-sized 500 ml dustbin.
Since the cleaner uses direct suction power, it doesn't have a main brush and is only equipped with 2-side brushes for edges and corners. This also means that the cleaner requires minimal maintenance. However, it doesn’t have dust sensors and can’t “sense” the areas that require more thorough cleaning.
This cleaner uses a 3-stage cleaning system (mop, sweep, and vacuum) and 3 working modes namely Auto, Spot, and Edge. For each mode, the N78 applies different cleaning patterns. The Deebot N78 covers an area of 1600 square feet which is enough for a medium-sized room.
Despite the fact that this cleaner is versatile for both carpets and hard floors, the manufacturer warns that using the N78 on carpets may affect its performance. Indeed, I’ve noticed that carpet cleaning reduces battery life for about 50 minutes. Thus, I would recommend buying this model mainly for hard floors.
Having a suction power of 1000 PA, this vacuum cleaner is not very powerful. However, thanks to that, it’s very quiet, emitting only 56 dB of noise during operation.
The Deebot N78 features a 3000 mAH battery which allows for almost 2 hours of continuous work. Although the charging time may take up to 5 hours. This model also has an auto-charging function, but it won’t resume cleaning after charging.
In order to be able to avoid obstacles, this model is equipped with smart infrared sensors. However, it still may get stuck in front of cables or wires.
There is only one way to fully control the unit: with the help of an included remote control. Unfortunately, it isn’t compatible with Alexa or Google Assistant and can’t be controlled via smartphone. The remote control is simple and easy-to-use as it contains only 6 buttons. It allows controlling and programming the cleaning, as well as managing the direction of the cleaner. In case of any obstacles, the N78 will inform you with sound signals.
The cleaner ships with a Deebot N78 manual, two spare side brushes, and a replacement filter.
The unit has a minimalistic and neat exterior. It’s black and has a classic round shape.
A small control panel is located on top of the unit. There you will see a large Auto mode button and four indicators (Edge, Spot, Scheduling, and Alarm).
It uses two floating driving wheels that can handle uneven surfaces and automatically adapt to the floor surface.
So, as you can see from this Ecovacs Deebot N78 review, this model is quite simple, being suitable for basic needs. It uses direct suction, which is one of the most efficient ways to remove pet and human hair and has a runtime of almost 2 hours. However, it has some serious problems when it comes to carpet cleaning and can’t offer any advanced features.
