The Singer 7258 is suited for decorating garments, tailoring, embroidery, quilting, etc. Despite the abundance of features, this model is also beginner-friendly thanks to its straightforward computerized interface.
This machine isn't larger than similar models on the market, measuring 14.5 by 7.5 by 12 inches. At 14.6 pounds it's, however, a bit weighty, but, thanks to an integrated carrying handle, it's not so hard to carry.
The 7258 is constantly compared to its biggest competitor from another brand—the Brother CS6000i. They have identical designs and feature sets, but the reviewed model has sturdier construction and a larger number of inbuilt stitches.
The Singer Stylist 7258 includes 100 built-in stitches. 76 of them are decorative and can be used for fashion sewing, heirlooms, and other purposes. In addition, there are also 7 automatic one-step buttonhole styles. The small LCD screen allows seeing, choosing, and adjusting the stitch width (up to 0.23 inches) and length (up to 0.19 inches). As you select the stitch, the machine will make a beeping noise. Errors are also displayed on the screen.
The Singer 7258 is equipped with a heavy-duty motor. It has a peak speed of 750 stitches per minute. The machine performs almost like an industrial-grade model, sewing not only through thick fabrics (such as denim) but also through multiple layers of them. Despite this, the model isn't noisy at the lowest speed, but, at the highest speed level, it's extremely loud, which may be bothering you and your housemates.
The automatic needle threader, automatic presser foot pressure, built-in thread cutter, and an automatic reverse function are real time-savers. The needle can be put in 13 different positions. Note that you will need a screwdriver to change it. When you take your foot off the pedal, the needle will be automatically withdrawn, preventing it from breaking.
The machine comes with a lot of items that will assist you in many sewing purposes. Except for the exceptionally detailed Singer 7258 manual, there are also 10 presser feet, pack of needles, seam ripper, etc. The carrying case is not included in the package. There is only the dust cover that is suitable for the machine's storage but not for its transportation.
The current model has a lot of features and is easy to use. I would give it a 9 out of 10 rating.
The frame of the Singer 7258 Stylist is made of metal, but the external cover is plastic. The buttons to navigate the screen and the screen itself are located on the turquoise panel along with all the stitch patterns. Instead of a standard 3-point slider, there is a 5-point speed control slider that is especially good for beginners. Next, you will see the start/stop button, needle position button, and reverse stitch button. The jam-proof drop-in bobbin has a transparent cover, so you can easily monitor the thread level. The LED light that illuminates the work area isn't so bright.
Among all the computerized models that I have tested, this one is remarkable for its simplicity. Thus, here, I give it a 10 out of 10.
The Singer 7258 sewing machine can't offer such features as a large touchscreen, USB port, and others, but has a lot of automatic functions and a decent quantity of built-in stitches. As for me, it will do the best job for beginners and intermediate sewists, but professionals will hardly find it interesting.
